Welcome to our Instructor Course program. We are excited about your journey to becoming an instructor and want it to be as smooth and as FUN as possible. This course will open the doors to a world of opportunity and excitement in the snow sports industry. Our team are all passionate snow sports lovers themselves. You will be trained by highly qualified, experienced trainers, and we are here to assist, mentor and support you through the whole process to becoming an amazing ski or snowboard professional.
Your New Office
Japan is gaining huge popularity as the ultimate winter skiing and snowboarding destination. This is because the legend of Japanese powder is growing as it continues to prove itself, year after year with epic snowfalls. This popular course will assist you in gaining level 1 & 2 qualifications, and comes complete with the possibilities of a guaranteed job offer. You will train for and then spend a season working as a qualified ski or snowboard instructor. There will be times when you will just pinch yourself and say My new office is just amazingly awesome – My dream job!!

Association
We are an approved Ski School provider of APSI courses. The Australian Professional Snowsport Instructors Inc. (APSI) is a not-for-profit association which is internationally recognized by the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA).
Certification
Alpine level one course
The alpine level one qualification is the entry point to the Australian instructor training pathway. No teaching experience is required, just good people skills, patience, and a friendly personality.
Certification is not required for this program, as you will be training with us to become an APSI – Level 1 – Certified professional within the season. If you have a certification from another country you may want to gain your APSI Level 1 or Level 2 Certification.
You must be 16 years of age at the commencement of the course and you will need to be competent in your chosen discipline (intermediate) – but not a star.
Our level one instructor courses cover everything you need to know to get started with instructing. The 8 day course, with 1 rest day and 1 day assessment, covers topics such as:
- Teaching beginners (with a focus on teaching children)
- Class handling and safety
- Technical information and theory of instruction
- Personal skiing or riding improvement
- Demonstrations
Duties:
Successful candidates will receive a guaranteed job offer and will be in involved in the areas of Kids Club, helping other instructors and looking after Tanuki Kids 4-7 yrs and Kamuska Kids 8-14yrs and may also be rostered on lunchtime or any other duties required by you by your supervisor. You will work approximately 4 hrs a day in busy times and less than this in slower times. You will be notified of training sessions which you will be expected to attend as your employment requirement.

- Positions are offered to both female and male.
- An International Driving Permit could be an advantage

Availability required:
From 15 December through till the end of February. (Shorter periods are possible, ask us)
Languages:
English is a must. Some Japanese – Chinese language skills would be a huge bonus, but not totally necessary.
Program & Course Prices:
¥285,000 JPY
Made in three equal payments. Deposit by end of September 2019, 2nd payment by the end of October 2019 and final payment by end of November 2019.
What’s included in the price?
- 9 nights of accommodation at Alpha Lodge, which is just 200 meters from the lifts.
- 9 breakfasts & 9 dinners.
The APSI level one course and exam is included in our package and includes:
- 3 day course outline and training with ASSI – APSI trainer with a rest day before APSI course
- 3-day APSI course
- 1-day APSI exam
- Course materials and a teaching manual
- One-year membership to the APSI (valid until 31 December)
- A certificate and pin (on successful completion of the assessment tasks)
- Access to our teaching app.
- 7 day lift pass
The package price does not include lunches or equipment.
What can I expect on the course?
When you attend a course with us you can expect to receive world-class training, delivered with pride, passion, and understanding.
The level one course will cover all units that are assessed on the exam day – so you don’t need to have any prior knowledge.
During the exam, you will be given numerous attempts at each task creating a relaxed training atmosphere, allowing every opportunity for you to show that you possess the correct skills and understanding to attain the level one certificate.
Below is an example outline so you know what to expect each day. However, this may change depending on snow and weather conditions at the time of your course.
You do need to be prepared for full days (7+ hours) and that you will be outside on the snow for six hours each day.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring:
- Your boots, skis, and poles. These should be well maintained and tuned.
- Warm waterproof clothing, including a beanie or helmet* and gloves – be prepared!
- Sunglasses or goggles and sunscreen.
- A packed lunch or money to buy lunch – you need to be able to carry this with you as the group may stop on the mountain for your lunch break.
- A notebook and a pencil.
*We recommend that all candidates wear a helmet when participating in courses or exams
You are now a SnowSports Professional:
Now that you have successfully passed your Level 1 exam, you can begin your work experience as a snow sport professional. You will now begin taking out lessons on your own, which is both challenging and very exciting. Depending on how your season goes, you may be offered a guaranteed job the following season.
